Country Fun In The Heart Of The Thumb Starting on Thursday, July 19th and running through Saturday July 21st is the 28th annual Marlette Country Fair Days. Featuring a variety of events and culminating in a fireworks display on Saturday night at the Marlette Community Park, this years Country Fair Days is sure to be packed with plenty of activities and fun for the whole family. This years events feature many of the traditional favorites of the Country Fair Days, like the Bales of Fun Straw Sculpting Contest which features 30 entries this year from local business' and individuals, as well as some new additions such as the Birds Of Prey program which will bring raptors to the Marlette Community Park. Starting on Thurday there is a hamburger lunch being served at United Hospice just north of town on M-53 from 11am till gone, the Marlette Community Library is having their annual booksale, and local residents are having many yard sales around town all weekend long. On Thurday night Las Vegas returns to the Marlette Coach House. With the popular Texas Hold' em tournament running until midnight, as well as table games like Blackjack, Let It Ride, and more, The annual Las Vegas night is sure to be hit again this year. On Friday there are festivities from the afternoon into the night. The Marlette Community Park will feature free music. From 3pm - 7pm, last years karaoke contest winner, Pete "Big Dog" Peters and his blues trio will perform. From 7pm-9pm warmups for this years karaoke contest will be taking place. There is a $3 fee to enter the contest and you have to be over 21 years old to perform. The first place award will be $300, the second place awrds $200, and the third place award will be $100. From 9pm until midnight, judging will take place while the Adam Allen Band performs a mix of classic rock, blues, and country. The beer tent will be open at 3pm until midnight. On Main Street, the Annual Marlette Kids Parade heads north at 7pm sharp from Marlette First United Methodist Church and end behind Mainstreet Pharmacy. Awards for "Funniest Barnyard Animal" "Most Realistic Barnyard Animal" "Best Barnyard Animal Wagon" and "Best Barnyard Animal Bike" will be presented at the Marlette Community Park after the parade. Winners in each category will recieve a $50 US Savings Bond. All children are welcomed to join the parade. Just show up at Marlette First United Methodist Church at 6:30pm. Saturday July 21st features the main events of the Country Fair Days. Marlette Community Park hosts the annual Vintage Mortorcycle and scooter show. Entry is open to motorcycles and scooters from 1982 or earlier from 10 am to noon. There are 11 classes with a winner for each class and will be announced by 4 pm. Marlette Community Park will also have a free banjo concert at 1pm. The classic car show returns for another year. Registration is open from 8am until noon, and awards will be presented promptly at 3 pm. Door prizes, music, and free water will be offered to all attendees. The annual Grand Parade will work its way north on mainstreet at 11am. Registration begins at 9am at the intersection of Sterling and Euclidstreets, with float staging in the stockyard parking lot. There will be prizes for first, second, and third place floats. The newly restored train depot will feature a classic hymn sing at 3pm, as well as historical items from the 1890s. Local railroad enthusists will also be showing off their model train collections both Friday and Saturday. The comedy "The Feindish Firebug Strikes Again" will be performed at the Marlette High School at 6:30pm. The end of this years Country Fair Days comes with a bang from the fireworks show that begins after dusk.
